My 5 Fashion Do’s

First, wearing a supportive bra. Menopause may have caused our bodies shape to change. Things tend to shift and may drop especially the bust line . I always check to make sure my bra is in good condition and the straps are adjusted correctly. Many women wear the wrong size bra and I see this a lot in women over 60. A visit to your local lingerie department or specialty store can provide you with a bra fitting to ensure you are wearing the proper bra for your current body. Bra sizes can change with weight fluctuations, also as we age breast tissue loses it’s firmness. My rule of thumb is to make sure there is good separation from my bust to my belly button every time I leave the house.

Second, an updated hair style. Whether you’ve decided to let your gray in or die away those gray strands, a current style helps you stay modern. Remember when changing your hair style, keep in mind your face shape and the texture of your hair. As with other things as we age our hair tends to thin in certain places. Consult your beautician for the best hairstyles for you and let them know about any concerns you have.

Third, a moisturizer for my skin. As we age our skin doesn’t produce the same amount of collagen and natural oils as it once did. My nighttime routine is to apply a good quality moisturizer on my face and lotion on my body as soon as I am out of the shower. The lotions that contain hyaluronic acid, salicylic acid and lactic acid have given me the best results. I feel your skin is a part of your over all look.

Fourth, wearing clothes that fit my current body. This is a big one because wearing clothes that are too tight makes you look larger. Clothes that are too big won’t define the figure you have. The key is to accentuate your best angles and WE all have them. I go through my clothes each season and remove items that no longer fit. If there is something I love and hope to fit into one day, I keep it until the next season. I buy quality basics so they last for years to come, but the fit is the major component to a great outfit.

Fifth, add a little pop with jewelry. Jewelry doesn’t have to be expensive to be effective. Good costume jewelry has the ability to give your outfit that extra edge. Pearls are great but can tend to age us, so I layer in another necklace to give it an updated look. Also, necklaces and scarves can serve as a great focal point. I love to wear oversized bangles and bracelet to add interest to my outfits. What are some of your fashion do’s?
