Social self-care
Social self-care activities are very important and self-care is essential for maintaining our overall health and wellness. Even though we all have different levels of need for connectedness to others, all humans including introverts are innately social and need connection to thrive. Maintaining healthy social connections with family, friends and the community yields many emotional and psychological benefits. It’s vital for combating loneliness, dealing with stress, and just having fun. When I just need to take your mind off things, doing something fun can be a stress-reliever.
One of the things I find fun is being a audience member for the local talk shows. I live in New Jersey and I can get to New York City in about30 minutes. So I have attended several live and taped shows over the last year. I have attended the Tamron Hall Show, The View and The Drew Barrymore Show. All the shows are different with their own set of unique rules and regulations but the one thing that is consistent across all the shows is the amazing staff. Below I will highlight my experiences at each show.
The Drew Barrymore show was the first show I attending. You line up outside at the appropriate time and then you are ushered into the audience waiting rooms, on the day I was there they had three waiting rooms. I was surprised to see they had water, drinks and a variety of snacks for us to enjoy. Once the set is ready they bring us into the studio and are told to turn off your phones and pout our belongings under your chair. I was able to take a photo before turning off my phone. The photos I have from the show are from the studio and from when the show aired. While you are at the show they let you know the date or dates that the show will air. It’s fun for my family and friends to see me on TV and they enjoy spotting me in the crowd.
I had the opportunity to be was an audience member on The Tamron Hall Show on two occasions. For this show we were in line outside as well and then escorted inside to a waiting room. Once inside the waiting room we were given a key to unlock a locker to put our personal belongings except for our phones. The Tamron Show allows you to keep your phone to take pictures until the show starts. My first visit offered a great experience with a chance to take a selfie with Tamron Hall. On the second show we were allowed to take photos while Tamron was talking with the studio audience, so I took a picture with her walking behind me :).
The last show I saw was The View, I was able to attend a show on two different occasions. As with the other shows we lined up outside and ar the appointed time we were led to the waiting room. For The View you keep your belongings with you and put them under your seat. As soon as the ladies are about to come out all phones have to be turned off. Photos can be taken Between segments you can take photos and prior to the show. The View is a live show, so the day you are there it is live which adds some extra excitement. I love to see all the things that happen off camera, hair and make up touch ups and cue cards being rehearsed for upcoming guests etc. The second show was a giveaway and we received a Cubii Compact Seated Elliptcal, which is a great machine and a big help for my fitness journey.
Self-Care will be an area that I continue to focus on because every time I do an self-care activity the results are amazing for me and my family. Giving to myself allows me to give to others. What are some of your self-care activities?
