Hysterectomy and Exercise

Exercise after my hysterectomy was a slow process! The first several days were spent managing my pain and dealing with my limitations. The only exercise I did was walking to and from the bathroom 😊. On the 5th day after my surgery I walked around the block(with assistance), after that first walk I went right upstairs and laid back down and took a nap. However, later that night as I reflected on my day I was proud of myself for getting out of the house and taking those first steps.I did that same walk for a few weeks and then gradually worked up to twice around the block, but I listened to my body and followed my doctors instructions. My goal was to get active at a slow and steady pace, without pushing my body too hard. I definitely didn’t want to make a return trip to the hospital. Walking is a great form of exercise and one I really enjoy. My favorite walking saying is, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a first step. Walking also provided me with a much needed change of scenery. I made sure to bring a bottle of water on my walks to stay hydrated. As soon as I have my 6 week doctor appointment and get approval to resume my regular activities I will add yoga and hiking back to my exercise routine.
